Irish singer-songwriter Ciaran Lavery is coming to the Czech Republic for the first time. Musician, who is becoming more and more famous outside Ireland, is currently working on his third album. You can hear his genuine expression and sincerity on May 14th in Cross Club. The show is part of Cross Club's series presenting current and new names on music scene. It's a free admission show.
Ciaran Lavery started his music career as a solo singer-songwriter in 2013, when his debut album Not Nearly Dark and EP Kosher were released. "I come from a tiny village; you could literally drive through Aghagallon in thirty seconds, but it’s jam packed full of characters and real, genuine people. It’s the type of place where if you’re being an idiot someone will tell you. That’s just how the environment was. I guess that sort of honesty comes out in my music.”
In 2015, he released a collaborative album with Ryan Vail Sea Legs, that has been shortlisted for the NI Music Prize (Best Northern Irish Album of 2015). He went back to his solo career after. Second album Let Bad In was crucial in many ways. Lavery won the Northern Ireland Music Prize for the best album and started touring Europe, USA and Canada. In the same year, he reached more than eighty thousand streams on Spotify, which brought him a show within Spotify Sessions. He is currently working on his third album called Sweet Decay, inspired by short stories that he was reading during the tour. "I always find it difficult to write on the road so I tend to collect ideas and these gave me a different focus. I discovered the joy in them," Lavery says. He is talking mostly about work of writers such as Denis Johnson, Joy Williams, Raymond Carver or JD Salinger. The album will be released on April 13th.
