Concert of Dymna Lotva, Morhana and Backbone at Warsaw's VooDoo during which Dymna Lotva will play a special setlist to celebrate the birthday of the band's singer, Nokt.
Dymna Lotva mixes doom and post black metal, sometimes adding dsbm and folk elements. Due to the use of true stories in the lyrics, the musicians' style is sometimes referred to as documentary metal. Dymna Lotva was formed as a studio project by composer Jauhien Charkasava and vocalist Katsiaryna Mankievich in 2015 in Minsk, Belarus. Already in 2016, the debut LP The Land Under The Black Wings: Swamp was released. A year later, the second album Wormwood, dedicated to the Chernobyl disaster, was released. Soon Dymna Lotva became one of the most active touring metal bands in Belarus. In 2020, the musicians openly supported protests against the dictatorship. For this reason, in the summer of 2021, all Dymna Lotva concerts in Belarus were banned. The singer fled to Ukraine to avoid imprisonment. She met the Russian invasion in Irpin. It was not until late 2022 that the musicians managed to meet again in Warsaw. In August 2023, the third album The Land Under The Black Wings: Blood was released by the German label Prophecy Productions. It is a conceptual album about war and occupation. At Prophecy Fest in autumn 2023, the band returned to the stage with a new line-up assembled in Poland.
Morhana is a band that combines the melodicism of folk with the sound of classical instruments on a raw foundation of metal. The band is inspired by folklore in the broadest sense of the term - that of their native country, but also Irish, Breton and Scandinavian culture. The lyrics often feature the heroes of native myths, the gods of Scandinavian sagas, creatures from legends and transcendentalism. These themes are sometimes broken up with 'drinking songs', which are a springboard for the serious themes taken up by the band. The multitude of inspirations makes Morhana's music diverse. The band has performed with world leaders of the genre, i.e. Turisas, Korpiklaani, Metsatoll, Alestorm, Waylander. The star of the Russian heavy metal scene Aria, as well as with native artists Turbo, or stars of the Polish folk scene such as Percival Shuttenbach, Żywiołak. The band released their first album When the Earth Was Forged in 2015, while their second album, entitled Eternal War, was released in 2022.
