Information about the concert
Programme: – Jacob Gallus Handl: Mirabile mysterium – Cristofaro Caresana: Magnificat a 8 – Jan Dismas Zelenka: Sub tuum presidium – Francis Poulenc: Quattre motets pour Noël
The Slovene Jacob Gallus Handl belonged to the circle of composers at the Prague court of Emperor Rudolf II and his works beautifully capture the magical atmosphere of Prague in Rudolf’s day. The compositions of Parisian neo classicist Francis Poulenc take their inspiration primarily from the High Renaissance, and his Quatre motets pour le temps de Noël refer back to Monteverdi’s laments.
