Pragueshorts Film Festival – Zahajovací program

The opening program for this year’s “Prague Short Film Festival” presents a selection of films from our competition sections.

You’ll see an Australian film about an unusual encounter at a gas station, a Finnish comedy about a mother’s desperate attempts at controlling her teenage son’s love life, a Swedish animated dirge by a group of depressed animals, an experimental video diary by the young jaguar Valerio from the USA, and a British musical about a taxidermist in love.

The Handyman / Nicholas Clifford / Australia 2020 / 15 min – Alone at her country estate, Evelyn attempts to end her life but is interrupted by the arrival of an awkward but endearing handyman. Evelyn’s desire to make him leave clashes with his need for a job and Evelyn discovers the handyman has problems of his own.

Something To Remember / Niki Lindroth von Bahr / Sweden 2019 / 5 min – A lullaby before the great disaster. Two pigeons visit a zoo without animals, a snail measures its blood pressure at the doctor, and something has gone terribly wrong at the CERN laboratory. Six scenes from our era, like memories of the world we leave behind.

Are you hungry? / Teemu Niukkanen / Finland 2019 / 12 min – A single mother struggles to connect with her adopted teenage son, who she believes is gay. Worried that the vulnerable boy will fall victim to older men preying on young boys online, she takes it upon herself to guide him safely through this period of self-exploration by setting him up on a date.

2 Lizards series / Meriem Bennani, Orian Barki / USA 2020 / 25 min – 2 Lizards is an animated series about getting through the first wave of the Covid pandemic in New York.

I'll End Up in Jail / Alexandre Dostie / Canada 2019 / 23 min – Maureen Sauvageau’s escape comes to an abrupt end when she drives her monster truck into a deadly car accident. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, she must share the company and the blame of a rather touching junkie called Jelly the Loon.

Valerio's Day Out / Michael Arcos / USA 2020 / 9 min – The young jaguar Valerio goes on a killing spree when he escapes from his enclosure at the zoo. After he is caught, sedated, and relocated, he makes a video diary for his significant other, Lula.

Stuffed / Theo Davies / United Kingdom 2021 / 19 min – A dark musical love story about a taxidermist searching for a human to stuff, and the man she finds on the internet willing to give up everything for the chance of eternal love.

Jackrabbit / Alex Feggans / Australia / 9 min – A backpacker stops by a remote gas station in Australia and is confronted with a bizarre situation.
