Lorna Shore headlining a massive deathcore line-up at Warsaw's Progresja.
One might think that deathcore is a genre that experienced its peak of recognition some time ago. Lorna Shore, however, leads you astray. Why? Because apart from boundless brutality or a wave of deadly breakdowns, they have something else - an almost unprecedented multicolourism in the genre. They are as contemporary as possible, they don't look back to idols from decades ago, so they combine whatever they want without hesitation. It could be a technical-deathmetal tangle of solos, it could be flavours from around modern black metal, or even symphonic influences. Lots of variety? By all means - it all contributes to Lorna Shore's image as one of the more developing extreme line-ups of recent years. Thanks to bands like this, the metal of our time will survive for an exceptionally long time.
Lorna Shore are joined by Rivers of Nihil. This innovative death metal band from Pennsylvania signed to Metal Blade Records in 2012 after a series of successful self-released EPs and countless US tours and festival appearances. The resulting debut album, 2013's The Conscious Seeds of Light, ran the gamut of emotions of modern progressive death metal, from brutal aggression to mournful melancholy. A career breakthrough for Rivers of Nihil came with the release of their third album, Where Owls Know My Name (2018); incorporating elements of electronica, jazz, alternative rock and folk into the mix, the material debuted at number 61 on the Billboard 200 chart and greatly expanded their fanbase. 2021 saw the release of their fourth and latest album The Work, which added a more yearning and exploratory aesthetic to their dynamic prog-metal sound.
The line-up is closed by Ingested and Distant. Ingested are a brutal death metal band from Manchester formed in 2006. They like slam death metal with some of the heaviest riffs in the world, they like blastomania close to late 90s death metal, but they also reach for contemporary deathcore touches. They debuted in 2009 with the album Surpassing the Boundaries of Human Suffering; since then they have released six more, the most recent of which is 2022's Ashes Lie Still. Hailing partly from Rotterdam in the Netherlands and partly from Bratislava in Slovakia, Distant combine elements of hyperdissonant downtempo deathcore, hard-hitting brutal death metal and beatdown to create a vicious world of heaviness inspired and twisted by their own history. Since their formation in 2014, they have played support slots for bands like Lorna Shore and Suicide Silence and released three studio albums, the latest of which is 2023's Heritage.
