Performative reading of Ajax directed by Mariusz Malec as part of the series Sophocles Reread at the Warsaw Theatre Institute.
After Women of Trachis, *Philoctetes * and Antigone, it was time for Ajax, which is the oldest of Sophocles' surviving dramas. It is one of the three parts of the Trojan Triptych, which takes place in the camp of the Greeks near Troy at the end of the war. It is the story of the tragic fate of an extraordinary warrior - the bravest Greek knight after Achilles. It was Ajax who saved Achilles' body. It was he who lost the dispute with Odysseus over his legendary armor. And it is he, unreconciled to the verdict and spurned by the Greek command, who gradually descends into madness. Ajax is a story of honor, of duty to loved ones, and of madness that leads to self-destruction and destroys everything it meets in its path. The reading will be followed by a meeting with the artists.
