Kanonenfieber + Grima

Concert by two anti-war extreme metal acts.

Kanonenfieber are a German metal band formed as a one-man project in Bamberg in 2021, who have since conquered live stages with sold-out headline shows and appeared in festival line-ups. This success was guaranteed by their debut album Menschenmühle, which aims to commemorate the countless victims of the First World War. The textual background of Menschenmühle is based on factual accounts, letters and other documents from living and dead soldiers. The band's concept goes against the glorification of war and industrialised dying and seeks to give a face to the nameless horrors of war. The second band to be heard at VooDoo is Grima – also a concept band that takes a critical look at the institution of war. It has existed since 2014 as a studio-only project, with a pagan ethos "based on the worship of the Old Forest, its power and magic, where Grima is the supreme god... a powerful spirit who protects only those who live in the forest and punishes anyone who disrespects nature". Conceptually, they approach criticism of the war more from the perspective of harm to natural order, but they take practical action outside of their art to openly condemn Russian war crimes committed on Ukrainian soil and financially support Ukrainian victims of the war and local Ukrainian artists who have had to cancel their concert plans because of the war.
