Jenny Hval: I Want to Be a Machine

Jenny Hval explores the limits of performance with her new album I want to be a machine as part of the evening Alternativa meets Heartnoize. She will perform on November 16 at ARCHA+.

Carnality, sexuality, patriarchy and her own limits - Norwegian musician and writer Jenny Hval hasn't been afraid to explore things in depth on albums like Blood Bitch and last year's Classic Objects, whether the topics were social, personal or the intersection of the two. She managed not to lose the message or herself in the catchy choruses and melodies.

With her new project I want to be a machine, Hval turns to exploring the limits of what she can convey to her audience as an artist, at a time when music is losing its value, whether physical or philosophical. This interdisciplinary performance, involving Hval and three other musicians, brings together new compositions that appear on stage alongside the act of writing an essay thematizing the artist's position on stage. Jenny Hval's work has long combined various forms of expression, from the musical to the literary to the visual. I want to be a machine is the first recording since Hval's last acclaimed album in 2022, and the live show will be performed on a handful of European stages.
