Information about the concert
This is a concert focused on the vocal work of Bedřich Smetana, held on his birthday March 2nd, 2024 when his 200th anniversary will be celebrated. The venue – Smetana Hall of the Municipal House in Prague – is also symbolic.
The concert will mainly feature his most demanding choirs (Rolnická, Píseň on the sea and Three Horsemen) performed by a 100-member male choir, to whose the performance had to be joined by 5 choirs from Bohemia and Moravia. Other male and female choirs will perform as well, including the cantata Czech Song.
The program is complemented by a solo performance by a violin virtuoso Jaroslav Svěcený (two duos from Z domoviny) and symphonic poems Vltava and Vyšehrad performed by the Karlovarský symfonický orchestr.
The concert is organized by the Pražský pěvecký sbor Smetana with the support of the Unie českých sborů.
