Information about the concert
During the next edition of weekly jazz meetings in the Boto Theatre the Irka Zapolska Quartet will perform. The Irka Zapolska Quartet project is an attempt to combine the contemporary, open vision of instrumental jazz with the mainstream approach to jazz vocalism. Its goal is to show the instrumental possibilities of the human voice through bold improvisation, which involves the use of various techniques and constant building of vocal technique. Creating an integral and equal sound with the rhythm section by using rhythmic, melodic, articulatory and harmonic means characteristic of contemporary instrumental jazz music, reaching beyond the patterns of a clearly defined melody or distinct rhythmics, exploring the voice in the context of open music, creative music. The ensemble's material is a story about perceiving reality through the prism of values and fixed opinions. It is a story about growing up and trying to find one's own identity on the other side of the mirror. The textual layer is a kind of oneiric variation on the stories we know from our childhood. By clashing with the successive opposites of the absurd world, it will be an attempt to interpret the surrounding reality. The members of the Irka Zapolska Quartet have won numerous individual awards, and as a quartet they were awarded the Grand Prix Ladies' Jazz Festival Gdynia 2019.
