Information about the concert

Prague Sounds and the Czech Philharmonic present: The Official Concert of the Czech Presidency of the European Council
A one-off concert on a unique floating stage on the river Vltava to mark the Czech Presidency of the European Council. As well as Smetana’s Vltava and Dvořák’s Carnival the concert will feature a performance of Janáček’s monumental Glagolitic Mass one of the most powerful sacred works ever written. The concert takes place with the support of the Czech government, the City of Prague, and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic
The Prague Sounds floating stage provides audiences with the opportunity, once a year, to experience an exceptional concert right on the Vltava river, with historic Prague forming a breathtaking backdrop. The stage is situated in the heart of the city, between the National Theatre and Slovansky Island, on the so-called Vltava Mirror downriver from the Old Town weir.
For the Czech Philharmonic first-ever concert on the river, the floating stage will be expanded to accommodate 170 participants. The audience capacity will also be increased to enable 1200 people to enjoy the concert.
The concert will go ahead even if weather conditions are unfavourable, with the exception of extremes such as severe winds, hail, or natural disasters. In the event of such extreme weather, the concert will be moved to the Dvořák Hall in Rudolfinum. In view of the smaller capacity of Rudolfinum relative to the floating stage, seats in the hall will be offered to VIP and first-category ticket holders only. Those who have second-category tickets will receive a refund if the concert cannot be held on the floating stage.
Programme – Antonín Dvořák: Carnival Overture – Bedřich Smetana: Vltava, a symphonic poem from the Má vlast cycle – Leoš Janáček: Glagolitic Mass, cantata for solo voice, mixed choir, orchestra, and organ
