Siesta w drodze: Pat Metheny

Pat Metheny will play at Warsaw's Palladium Theatre as part of a tour promoting his latest album Dream Box. The musician will play at the invitation of Marcin Kydrynski and his series Siesta on the road – presenting live artists known from his Sunday broadcasts Pora Siesta and related compilations.

Pat Metheny, guitar virtuoso, composer and winner of 20 Grammy awards is one of the most well-known personalities in jazz, revered and adored by hundreds of thousands of fans not only of this genre of music. He has created his own instantly recognisable style with a distinctive sound and timbre. He is the author of 53 albums, probably the only jazzman with a popularity equal to that of pop music idols and an undisputed star of the most important festivals all over the world. The tour promoting his new album Dream Box will be the first of its kind, a personal relationship between Metheny and his audience. During the concerts, the artist will present songs that have been written over the course of his 50-year musical career. It will be Pat Metheny's only tour of its kind - intimate, and like his latest album, exploring his past musical notes and focusing on the uniqueness of his solo guitar playing. Pat Metheny himself says of the tour: I'm really looking forward to this unique tour where it's just me. I'm going to go back to all my solo albums, starting with New Chautauqua, and I've prepared a lot of material: narratives, stories with expressive improvisation. It's going to be something completely different for me, such an intimate relationship.

The premise of Siesta on the Road is to present live artists known from Marcin Kydrynski's Sunday broadcasts Pora Siesta and from the much-loved best-selling compilations Siesta (nineteen editions have already been released.) Kydryński co-created the image of Radio Trójka for 30 years, and his programme Siesta was chosen as one of the most popular in the station's history. Since June 2020, he has been hosting his own programme Siesta Time on Radio Nowy Świat. In Siesta, the blending of cultures; the blurring of boundaries while respecting the traditions of the regions; and reconciliation across historical divides are the most valuable values next to the substance of the music itself. Pat Metheny is, in a way, the founding artist for Siesta and an important figure in the life of the project's author himself. After all, Pat and Marcin, together with Anna Maria Jopek, created the groundbreaking album Upojenie.
