Information about the concert
On October 16 2022, a concert under the name „In the Intoxiating Glow of the Moon“ will take place in the New Town Hall during the „Lieder Company Concert Season 2022“.
On October 16 1912, a major work of the 20th century was premiered in Berlin: the Pierrot Lunaire cycle by Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg. It will be performed on the day exactly 100 years later and complement the concert with a cycle by Alexander Zemlinsky, a friend and great promoter of Schoenberg’s music. For this concert, a new piece was commissioned for an identical instrumentation as Pierrot Lunaire, but with a male voice, created by the young Czech composer and award-winning baritone Vojtěch Šembera, who will sing it himself in the premiere. The solo part in the works of A. Schönberg and A. Zemlinsky will be taken by the renowned interpreter of 20th century music, soprano Irena Troupová, who will be accompanied by leading Czech instrumentalists under the direction of conductor Petr Louženský.
The works will be performed in German and accompanied by Czech subtitles.
